Tongue Scraping…The Missing Piece in Your Routine!

Tongue scraping is highly underrated, in my opinion! It is the easiest 20 second self-care practice you can do for YOU daily and reap SO MANY BENEFITS!

Tongue scraping comes from Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old practice that is home to India. The focus of Ayurveda: PREVENTION.

So how can tongue scraping benefit your health and what does it prevent?

Reduce Bad Breath

  • Your bad breath comes from the back of your tongue where bacteria continually builds up. When you scrap your tongue it can remove that build-up better than what a toothbrush can do.

Enhance Your Taste Buds

  • Scrapping will basically reopen your taste buds. All of that build-up can dull the taste senses over time, so start scrapping watch taste how intense flavors truly are again!

Reduce Cravings

  • With the build-up on your tongue, you are continually refeeding what you ate into your system. Sugar will stay on your tongue for up to 3 days EVEN when you brush your teeth. No wonder constant cravings occur. So the sooner you scrap it off, the better and the less you will crave something.

My secret…I scrap every time I eat dessert AND after drinking alcohol. I swear it prevents hangovers getting it off my tongue! Plus, I rarely have any cravings…and I used to crave ice cream daily.

Once you get your tongue scraper, this is what you do:

  1. You usually want to do it first thing in the morning before you brush your teeth. I do it at night after drinking or having dessert too before I brush my teeth. DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU!
  2. Grab your scraper, holding with both hands and go back as far as it is comfortable (without gagging yourself) with slight pressure and scrap to the front of your tongue in one smooth swipe.
  3. Rinse the scrapper off and repeat! I repeat until the thick white film stops coming off, but doing at least 5 swipes will help!
