This month is the theme of cleansing and detoxing without the intensity of a long cleanse! I wanted to share with you a smoothie that I like to make when I am really honing in on the health of my detox organs!

And I know what you are thinking...beets in a smoothie...Courtney nooooo! But hear me out, I HATE beets so in order to enjoy the benefits beets have to offer I like to blend it up and mask some of the earthy flavor with other nutrients.

Beets highly benefit your detoxification system in your body, especially your liver. So not only are you getting a quick breakfast in running out the door, you are also boosting your body with almost zero effort! WIN, WIN!

Detoxing Strawberry Beet Smoothie

What you need:

• 1/3 cup peeled and chopped beets (I buy beets, prep them then freeze them to throw in for a quick smoothie morning)
• 1 cup frozen strawberries
• 1/2 ripe banana (if you want it sweeter do a whole banana)
• 1/2 to 1 cup coconut water (or just water)
• 1 tablespoon flaxseeds or chia seeds
• 1 handful kale or spinach
• Optional: 1 scoop collagen or plant-based protein to add a little protein boost
• Optional: 1/2 fresh squeezed lemon

What to do:

1. Blend all ingredients together and enjoy! If you want it sweeter do a whole banana OR add 1/3 cup more of strawberries. If it still isn't sweet enough, do a dash of juice of some kind (but watch the sugar on store bought juices).
