Cleaning Up Your Armpits!

Apr 21, 2022

One thing that I am extremely passionate about is reducing toxins in my daily products…especially cleaning and beauty products. WHY? Because these toxins can truly bog down your body causing hormonal imbalances, brain fog, gut health issues…and this is just the tip of the iceberg! So if there is a way that I can give my body a chance to operate effortlessly even with enjoying Doritos and all it takes is changing up a few products, I am SO IN and I want you to make the switch with me!

I TOTALLY understand having reservations about making the switch…it’s too expensive, it’s hard to find, it doesn’t work as good, it doesn’t give me that clean smell…did I miss any? But, this switch can help you live a healthier life filled with less chronic illnesses like cancer or even less body discomforts such as bloating, gas or headaches. You in?!

Now, I don’t want to overwhelm you and talk about every possible product to switch so I want to focus on just one: DEODORANT! I know this is the ONE product that is the hardest to switch, but it is the most important (in my opinion) because it is a detox pathway for your body. And when you clog up those armpit sweat glands your body suddenly has one less place to get rid of toxins. This can cause a major back-up impacting your lymph nodes, liver, etc. which we REALLY don’t want!

Ingredients to Avoid in Deodorants:

Aluminum

This is what clogs your pores to stop sweating. Aluminum in deodorants can impact your estrogen levels which can put you at a higher risk for breast and prostate cancer because it is more difficult for you body to rid itself of estrogen.

Parabens

This ingredient mimics estrogen in your body which can cause a hormonal imbalance. Parabens are a preservative in products.

Triclosan

This is a pesticide…and it’s in your deodorants…like whhaattt?! This ingredient kills bacteria in the product when manufactured…but then it also kills bacteria on your skin. Technically this product has been banned from your cleaning products, but still being used in your pit stick?! Like WTF.

Propylene Glycol

When used daily, it can damage your central nervous system, heart and liver…again WTF. It is a major skin irritant as well which rightfully so because it is also used in antifreeze and paint.

TEA (Triethanolamine) & DEA (Diethanolamine)

TEA and DEA are ammonia derivatives and when they seep into your skin it can impact your liver and kidneys (more detox issues). These have been BANNED in Europe because they are a carcinogen and still being used in the US.

Fragrances

I have a whole blog post on fragrances you can read HERE. But they are a huge hormone disruptor so stick to natural fragrances such as essential oils.

One note about a clean deodorant common ingredient: Baking Soda. Baking soda can actually cause skin irritation due to the skin down there being very thin. So watch out for baking soda or sodium bicarbonate if you have a sensitivity.

When switching to a natural deodorant, your body is going to go through a detox period. It will be frustrating, smelly and you will want to go back to the original, but please just stick with it for the sake of your health. It can take 1 to 6 months for your body to open back up and push out all of the excess crap your old deodorant clogged into your pores. So just go in with patience, embrace the stank, and maybe apply deodorant a little more often!
