Your gut is the hub for your overall health – your mood, your immunity, your nutrient absorption, your energy, and so much more! This is where disease can start, fester and grow so it is EXTREMELY important to give your gut what it needs!

I want to share with you 5 products that hinder your good gut bacteria. The more you can reduce them the better! I know sometimes it is inevitable, you are human and can’t be perfect (heck I’m not even perfect with my own gut health)…but awareness is key to setting yourself up for success!

5 Products Killing Off Your “Good” Gut Bacteria:

Antibacterial Soaps

Why? Antibacterial hand soaps brag saying “kills 99% bacteria”. The downfall, there is no control as to WHAT bacteria it is going after so it is the good, the bad and the ugly! The more you can use more natural soaps like castile soap or just avoid anything antibacterial the better you will be!

Sugars

Why? Sugar feeds the bad bacteria in your gut. This is what makes the bad grow, push out the good and take over your gut microbiome. Reducing sugars is HUGE in boosting your gut health especially refined and artificial sugars…these are the processed ones you truly do not want!

Antibiotics

Why? Antibiotics, like antibacterial products, kill off bacteria when you are sick but it doesn’t target just the bad…it goes for ALL of it including the good. So one round of antibiotics wipes out your gut microbiome leaving you with nothing beneficial. Always make sure if you need to take an antibiotic, boost the gut loving foods and think about taking a probiotic!

Processed Foods

Why? Processed foods usually don’t have much beneficial nutrients. They are filled with chemicals, processed ingredients and sugars that don’t feed the good bacteria allowing the bad bacteria to take over. The more real whole foods, the better!

NSAIDS

Why? NSAIDS are your pain reducing drugs like Ibuprofen. These products when taken long-term can really impact your gut lining and kill off the good bacteria. I know sometimes taking these are inevitable so again get the diverse nutrients and take a probiotic!
